Tawfiq Mahmoud Jarrar , born in 1918, served as Mufti of the city of Jenin in Palestine for forty-three years from 1953 AD until his death in 1996.

His education

He received his primary education up to the fourth grade in Sanur, then moved to the city of Jenin and studied there until the seventh grade in 1935 AD, then he joined to complete his education in the Rashidiya School in Jerusalem in 1936 AD, after which he traveled to Al-Azhar University to study Sharia sciences, and obtained a high degree in the Faculty of Sharia law in 1943 AD, and he obtained the international certificate with a license in Sharia judiciary in 1945.

Working life

He worked as a teacher of religious sciences in Jenin Secondary School in 1946 AD and taught the Arabic language there. He was appointed Mufti of Jenin Governorate in 1953 AD. He spent forty-three years as Mufti until his death.

The owner of the mufti faction was head of the reform committee in Jenin Governorate, and he spent most of his life reconstructing mosques and repairing the city. He was a member of the Supreme Endowments Council in Jerusalem, a member of the Supreme Islamic Authority in the West Bank, president of the Association of Palestinian Scholars in the city of Jenin , and president of the Fatwa Council in Jenin Governorate. Jenin, a member of the Fatwa Council in the West Bank, a preacher at the Grand Mosque in Jenin for forty-three years, and head of the Preaching and Guidance Department for Jenin Governorate.

His Eminence the Mufti was one of the symbols of Jenin Governorate and the first man in it. He was a defender of all the oppressed in Jenin and outside it. He had courageous patriotic stances in which he defended prisoners and detainees in the occupation prisons. He was one of the first pioneers in Islamic advocacy.

His death

He passed away on the day of Eid al-Fitr, February 20, 1996, while leading the worshipers and reciting Surat al-Ala in the Grand Mosque of Jenin .
