The reciter Sheikh Saeed Hassan Hussein Samour (1917 - August 30, 1982), a sheikh, scholar, jurist and reciter of the Qur’an. He was born and raised in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm. He is the reciter of Levant and the Arab world.
His upbringing and his quest for knowledge
He is Sheikh Saeed bin Hassan Hussein Samour. He was born in the city of Tulkarm in Palestine in 1917. He grew up in his city in a family known for science. He studied Sharia sciences and the Qur’an in Tulkarm at the hands of a number of scholars and sheikhs. Then, as a young man, he took up reciting the Qur’an in mosques and religious ceremonies in Tulkarm. .
After that, he joined Al-Azhar in Cairo in 1937, and there he took the narration of Hafs on the authority of Asim from the Shatibiya road and perfected it, as he took the chain of transmission related to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and then returned to Tulkarm.
In the mid-1940s, he headed to Damascus and joined the Esaaf Charitable School and the Institute for the Revival of Sharia Sciences. In 1960, he obtained a certificate of legal studies with a degree of excellence, and the presence of the Qur’an on the Syrian Arab Radio.
Sheikh Saeed Samour was the imam of several mosques in Palestine and Jordan, and he established and supervised houses for the Qur’an in Jordan. He also contributed to checking the printing of several copies of the Qur’an, and was an advisor to the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments.
He worked as a lecturer of Sharia at Princess Alia College in Amman, and also worked as a lecturer at the University of Jordan from the early seventies until his death in 1982.

Sheikh Saeed Samour represented Jordan in a number of international conferences related to the Qur’an, including the International Qur’an Conference in Turkey during the period from December 15, 1976 to December 21, 1976, with the participation of fifteen countries. He also represented Jordan at the Quran Conference in Libya in 1978.
Reciting the Qur'an on major occasions
Sheikh Saeed Samour was chosen to recite the Qur’an in major celebrations and occasions. He recited the Qur’an in Syria in the presence of President Gamal Abdel Nasser during the period of unity with Egypt, and the Qur’an was present in Jordan in the Raghadan Royal Palace in front of Jordan’s King Hussein bin Talal and his Crown Prince at the time, Prince Hassan bin Talal.

Sheikh Saeed Hassan Samour died on August 30, 1982 AD, corresponding to Dhu al-Qa’dah 11, 1402 AH, and was buried in the “Sweileh Cemetery” in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

Achievements and Awards

Sheikh Saeed Samur was awarded the Golden Medal of the Quran during the Quran Conference in Turkey in December 1976, in the presence of the then Turkish Prime Minister Suleyman Demirel, and the Turkish Prime Minister Suleiman Demirel sent a personal invitation to Sheikh Samur to visit his home.
Sheikh Saeed Samour was honored more than once, and on November 15, 2013, Sheikh Sammour was honored in the first ceremony to honor scholars and readers in Jordan under the patronage of the Jordanian Minister of Awqaf Bassam Al-Amoush, who is one of Sheikh Saeed Samour's students.
