Palestinian swimmer Yazan Al-Bawab bid farewell to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after finishing third in his group and 66th overall in the 100-meter freestyle swimming race out of 71 participants.
Al-Bawab came third behind Nepalese Alexander Chan, who came first and covered the distance in 53:41 seconds, and Kosovo swimmer Olet Konduruli (54:33 seconds), all of whom were eliminated from the competition.
Al Bawab recorded a record of 54:51 seconds and came in 66th place out of 71 participants in the race activities, for which those with the best 16 records qualified, led by Italian Thomas Icon, who recorded 47:71 seconds.
Al-Bawab lives in Canada and was born on October 30, 1999. He was invited to participate with 4 Palestinian athletes with a white card by the International Olympic Committee in swimming, judo, weightlifting and athletics.
The Arab contestants were eliminated from the qualifiers, led by the Egyptian Ali Khalaf Allah, who finished in 30th place, the Algerian Osama Shahwan (37), the Yemeni Mukhtar Al-Yamani (47), and the Emirati Yousef Al-Matroushi (50).
