Ahmad Abu Ghosh (born February 1, 1996) is a Jordanian taekwondo athlete of Palestinian origin . He won a gold medal for Jordan at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the men's 68 kg taekwondo competition while still a student at the University of Jordan . It is Jordan's first official medal in the history of its participation in the Olympic Games. Abu Ghosh was previously the third Jordanian player to win the World Taekwondo Championships for juniors and juniors in 2012 in Sharm el-Sheikh, after other Jordanians Mohammad Al-Abbadi at the World Cup in Greece 2002 and Yazan Al-Sadig at the World Cup in Turkey 2008.
On October 30, 2020, he suddenly announced his retirement from international football, and on November 6, 2020, the Jordanian Public Security Court sentenced him to six months in prison on charges of forging official documents and illegally possessing a passport. The court then decided on November 23, 2020 to suspend the prison sentence issued against him.
His life and sports upbringing
Ahmed Imran Issa Abu Ghosh was born in Amman on February 1, 1996, and is of Palestinian origin . His father, Imran Issa Abu Ghosh, was born in 1947 in the village of Emmaus , which was occupied and its people were expelled from it in 1967 , and his family migrated to Jordan . According to one of his relatives, “ the Abu Ghosh family is well-known in Jerusalem, and the village of Abu Ghosh was named after the family, but not all of its members are descended from this village, some of them were displaced from the village of Emmaus or Latrun .” It is also mentioned that his father died on November 29, 2020.
Abu Ghosh began his journey to stardom at the Al-Faris Taekwondo Center, then in 2010 he was part of the national taekwondo team for the World Taekwondo Junior Championship in Sharm El-Sheikh , and his skill and professional talent and high physical and technical abilities were evident, as he was the only Arab player to win the gold medal at the World Championship in that championship. He then participated in all national teams in their various age groups, then won the gold medal at the World and Asian Championships, and the Best Jordanian Athlete Award granted by the Jordanian Olympic Committee . In 2013, he suffered a cruciate ligament injury, and was away from taekwondo for one year, after which he returned to follow the training and qualifiers for juniors.

Qualifying for the Olympics
Ahmad Abu Ghaush earned an official qualification card for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics by winning the gold medal in the under 68 kg weight category at the Asian Olympic Taekwondo Qualifiers held in the Philippine capital, Manila . He defeated Mongolian player Temujin Roevjan, then a player from Singapore, then Bahraini player Abdullah Al Ahmadi with a score of 13-2. Then in the final he defeated a player from Thailand with a large score of 15-2 to qualify for the Olympics.
Preparing for the Olympics
He began preparing for the Olympics by holding a training camp in Tunisia with reserve player Anas Al-Adarbeh and national coach Fares Al-Assaf . Then he went to a training camp in South Korea, where he participated in the Korea Open Taekwondo Championship held in July 2016, and won the gold medal. Then he went to hold a camp in Manchester and then went to Brazil.

Abu Ghosh's confrontations began with the Egyptian player Ghofran Zaki, whom he defeated 9-1.
He then faced the Korean Lee Dao-hoon in a tough match, where he won by 3 points, 11-8.
In the semi-finals he defeated the Spanish champion and London 2012 Olympic gold medalist Joel Gonzalez with a score of 12-7.
In the final match on August 18, Abu Ghosh defeated Russian Alexei Denisenko in the final round with a score of 10-6.
Reactions in Jordan
The Jordanian King called Abu Ghosh and congratulated him. [ Queen Rania Al Abdullah tweeted : “ You have made Jordan happy with your great achievement. Congratulations to the Jordanian Taekwondo champion Ahmad Abu Ghosh for winning the gold medal at the Olympics . ” Jordanian state television elaborated on Abu Ghosh’s achievement and devoted the entire sports magazine program that airs every Friday afternoon to talking about the achievement.
Upon his arrival at Queen Alia International Airport , Abu Ghosh received an official and popular reception that had been arranged for him in advance on the evening of Tuesday, August 23. At the forefront of those receiving him were Princes Hassan bin Talal, Faisal bin Hussein , and Rashid bin Hassan , the Minister of Sports and Youth, and Abu Ghosh’s relatives. The celebration was completed by receiving Abu Ghosh in Prince Rashid Hall in Al Hussein Sports City, and the celebration included performances by the Armed Forces Music Band and a number of national songs.
