His journey to Rome

On July 18, 1946, Amin Bey Abdel Hadi traveled with an accompanying delegation to Egypt to meet with the Apostolic Nuncio to make some arrangements for a visit to Vatican City , after which he headed to Rome. They were received in Rome by two monks sent by the brother of Patriarch Barlassina, the Patriarch of the Latin sect in Jerusalem, and they stayed at the Minerva Hotel, which was famous at that time for the clergy visiting the Vatican . They were met by the General Superior of the Jesuits in the world, who blessed their endeavor. They then headed to the Vatican and were received by Monsignor Valerie, who was a former Apostolic Nuncio in Egypt and Palestine. This trip was characterized by tolerance. The meeting was arranged for Friday in August, but His Holiness the Pope’s gesture when he learned that the delegation included Christian and Muslim clergymen, he said that Friday is a Muslim holiday and Sunday is a Christian holiday, so it is not appropriate for me to conduct an interview on them. It was postponed to Saturday, August 3. They were received with great hospitality and ceremonies and arrived at His Holiness’s office. Afterwards, a brief statement was presented in Arabic, and he was given a Latin translation explaining the memorandum on the Palestinian issue, the Arab issue, and other memoranda related to the issue that were presented at the time.

His Holiness was very attentive, his gaze moving between the members of the delegation and asking about the status of each of them. At the end of the visit, they were presented with silver medals, on one side of which was a picture of His Holiness and on the other side was a picture of the Good Samaritan. The Supreme Pontiff responded to the memorandum and handed him a statement in French, in which Mr. Youssef Sion spoke in French and briefly explained the issue of the Arabs in Palestine and the importance of its religious status.
