Fatima Muhammad Ali Barnawi (1939-2016), a Palestinian fighter of African descent, participated in the Palestinian resistance in the mid-1960s, an important period in the life of the Palestinian cause. Fatima is known as the first Palestinian woman who organized a paramilitary operation in Israel - an attempt to bomb a cinema in October 1967, and she carried it out with her sister Ihsan, who is about 5 years younger than her, and she is the first Palestinian detainee in Israeli prisons, and the Palestinian Women’s Police Institution in 1994 When the Palestinian National Authority was established, it held the rank of colonel.

Fatima Barnawi was born in Jerusalem in 1939. Her experience with the Israeli occupation began when she was nine years old, when she moved with her mother and family from Jerusalem to a refugee camp near Amman. Her father, Muhammad Ali Barnawi, fought in the Palestine Revolution of 1936, accompanied by Hajj Amin al-Husseini, and he remained in Palestine.

Of the thirty-four Palestinian women whom Amal Kawar interviewed to study “Daughters of Palestine”, Fatima was one of four women who joined the resistance movement in its beginnings as a fighter before it became a political resistance, while the other three were Laila Khaled, Aisha Odeh and Rasmiya Odeh.
