Osama Ahmad Mustafa al-Najjar (Abu Ahmad; born on June 16, 1967 in al-Fawar camp) is a laboratory medicine specialist, university professor, and Palestinian politician. He holds a master's degree in clinical laboratory science. He is currently the Director General of the General Administration of Ancillary Medical Services in the Palestinian Ministry of Health and the President of the Palestinian Laboratory Medicine Syndicate. He is a member of the Palestinian Revolutionary Council of the Fatah Movement. He also previously held the position of Spokesperson for the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and he was Director General of the Supreme Traffic Council in the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Osama Al-Najjar was born on June 16, 1967 in Al-Fawar Camp, Hebron Governorate, in the south of the West Bank, to a Palestinian Muslim family that immigrated as a result of the 1948 war from the town of Al-Fallujah, located to the northeast of Gaza City, to the Hebron region, and then settled in Al-Fawar camp for Palestinian refugees. Al-Najjar received his education at the League of University School in Hebron Governorate in 1985, then completed his education at Al-Quds University in 1993 to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Laboratory Medicine. Al-Najjar obtained a master’s degree in Laboratory Medicine from Birzeit University in 2007 and is currently enrolled in a PhD program in Hematology.

Al-Najjar became an activist in the Fatah movement, as he was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces several times. He was elected secretary of the Fatah movement in Al-Fawar camp for several years. He was head of the student youth movement at Al-Quds University and head of the Student Union Council in the period 1987-1992. Marwan Barghouti assigned him the task of supervising the Fatah Youth Movement in community colleges in the central West Bank within the Central Student Movement Office from 1988 AD until 1992 AD. Al-Najjar was president of the Medical Scientific Society. In 1996, Al-Najjar was elected a member of the executive office of the Arab Federation of Laboratory Medicine representing the State of Palestine, and he is still a member of the Executive Office of the International Federation of Laboratory Medicine representing the State of Palestine, and a member of the secretariat of the Central Movement Office of popular organizations, federations, and trade unions in the Fatah movement since 1996 until now. He founded, with others, the Laboratory Medicine Association in Palestine. He was elected treasurer of the Association in the first session 1996-1998, as well as in the second session 1998-2000. He was elected president of the Laboratory Medicine Syndicate in the third session in 2004 and served until 2015. On January 17, 2015, al-Najjar won the syndicate’s elections and had headed the “martyr Ziyad Abu Ain” list. The “Jerusalem Unites Us” bloc, headed by Al-Najjar, won the union elections on February 15, 2019. In 2003, he participated in the establishment of the Federation of Health Professions Unions in Palestine, which includes about 10 health professional unions. On October 15, 2010, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas al-Najjar appointed Director General of the Supreme Traffic Council at the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

 

On October 4, 2012, the Palestinian President issued a decree transferring al-Najjar to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

 

On December 5, 2015, Al-Najjar was elected as the representative of the State of Palestine in the position of the General Secretariat of the Arab Federation of Clinical Biology in the union elections that were held in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.

 

On December 4, 2016, Osama al-Najjar won the elections of the Fatah Revolutionary Council, which were held during the Seventh Congress of Fatah, and thus Osama became one of the members of the Revolutionary Council.

 

On June 26, 2017, Al-Najjar became the representative of the State of Palestine in the International Union of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine after Palestine gained permanent membership.

 

On April 18, 2018, the State of Palestine was appointed President of the Arab Federation of Clinical Biology.

 

On September 6, 2020, he was elected Secretary of the Consumer Cooperative Society of Public Employees.
