Adel Zawati was born 1920 in Zawata, Nablus . He attended school near Jerusalem (The Friends Boys School )(FBS) then went on to receive his bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Arabic Literature from the American university in Beirut (AUB) in 1945. Adel Zawati assumed the position of ruler of Lydda , Ramleh then Yafa ( Jaffa) under the British Mandate in Palestine and later moved on to Jerusalem as Secretary for the British High Commissioner in Jerusalem. He fell prisoner to the Israeli occupation forces following the 1948 Palestinian Israeli war and was released in an exchange of prisoners later on. In the years that followed, Adel Zawati took the job of Mayor (Qae’m Maqam) of the city of Jenine (1961), and mayor of Hebron and Irbid in the early 60s He later worked for the Jordanian government owned Television and Broadcasting stations and took other positions in Jordan, the United Nations organization and the Arab world before being elected in 1982, a member of the Jordanian Parliament representing the city of Nablus.
