Ibrahim Muhammad Mahmoud Khreisheh
(March 26, 1956 in Tulkarem) is a Palestinian politician and diplomat. He is the
permanent representative of Palestine to the United Nations in Geneva and to
all international organizations, and the Palestinian ambassador to Switzerland.
He held the position of Palestinian deputy foreign minister.
Education and educational attainment
Ibrahim Muhammad Mahmoud Khreisheh
was born in the city of Tulkarem in the West Bank on March 26, 1956. He
received his education in the schools of his city, Tulkarem, then obtained a
degree in medicine from the University of Belgrade in the Republic of Serbia.
He also obtained a diploma in international law from the International Center
for Human Rights in Strasbourg.
Political and diplomatic life
In 1990 he was elected president of
the General Union of Palestinian Students, and assumed the presidency of the
Department of Final Status Negotiations in the Palestine Liberation
Organization in 1995, and in 1997 he was elected a member of both the Central
Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Revolutionary Council
of the Fatah Movement.
In 2003, he became Director General
in the Department of Popular Organizations, by a decision of Palestinian
President Yasser Arafat, then an official for international organizations in
the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2004, and in 2005 he became an
ambassador in the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a
decision issued by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
He became the Palestinian Deputy
Minister of Foreign Affairs (Undersecretary) in 2005 until 2010, and he held
the position of the Palestinian Special Envoy to the Presidency of the European
Union, and on October 3, 2008 he assumed the position of Permanent
Representative of Palestine to the United Nations in Geneva and the position of
Permanent Representative of Palestine to all international organizations,
including the Council human rights.
On April 15, 2010, he assumed the
position of Palestinian Ambassador to Switzerland, and on July 1, 2010,
President Mahmoud Abbas chose him as part of the Dialogue Committee with the
Vatican City; In order to formulate cooperation agreements between the
Palestine Liberation Organization and the Vatican.
Khreisha is a member of the
Palestinian Coalition for Peace, and his name has been nominated several times
to take over the portfolio of the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a
number of Palestinian governments; However, he refused to do so.
Khreisheh has multiple diplomatic
experience, and he also holds a number of courses, including a course in
environment and development in 1992, and courses in international law in France
and Switzerland in 1993.
