Fathi Abdullah Abu Mughli, a
Palestinian doctor and health minister, born in Nablus in 1951, studied
medicine at the University of Athens, the capital of Greece, and obtained a
specialization in chest diseases also from Greece, where he trained and worked
in its hospitals.
He practiced his profession as a
pulmonary doctor in Amman, the capital of Jordan, where he lived his childhood
and youth. He also worked as a consultant for a number of Jordanian health
institutions.
Dr. Fathi Abu Mughali returned to
Palestine in 1998, where he worked as director of the “Health System Development
Project funded by the World Bank for the benefit of the Palestinian Ministry of
Health, during which dozens of health clinics were built in order to develop
the infrastructure for primary health care, and many treatment protocols for
the most important chronic diseases were developed.” Developing a computerized
health insurance system and introducing quality concepts in health care in
Palestine.
He worked on international
cooperation projects between the Palestinian Ministry of Health and international
donor institutions between 1999 and 2004.
In 2004, he moved to work with the
World Health Organization in Jerusalem, as Director of Health Programs.
In June 2007, he was appointed
Minister of Health in the first government of Salam Fayyad.
