Imad Mahmoud Mustafa Zuhairi (October 21, 1970) is a Palestinian diplomat, ambassador, and politician. He was born in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm. He is currently serving since February 2016 as Director General of the Palestinian International Cooperation Agency (PICA) , and he was there before it for years. Representative of Palestine to the United Nations and to all international organizations in Geneva, and deputy permanent representative of Palestine .
His upbringing and educational attainment
Imad Mahmoud Mustafa Zuhairi was born in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm on October 21, 1970 , and obtained a bachelor’s degree in “International Relations” in 1993 in Grenoble , France. He is fluent in Arabic , French , English , and Hebrew.
Diplomatic career
Since December 1994, Al-Zuhairi began working in the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs , and between the years 2003 and 2005 he was Assistant to the Palestinian Foreign Minister Nabil Shaath . He was also responsible for the European Affairs Office in the Ministry, then head of the Ministry’s Press Office between 2005 and 2006 .
From 2007 until 2016 , he was the representative of Palestine to the United Nations and to all international organizations in Geneva , and deputy permanent representative of Palestine .
In February 2016, he assumed the position of Director General of the Palestinian International Cooperation Agency (PICA) , making him the first Director General of the agency since its establishment on January 13 , 2016 .
On April 25, 2023 , Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan awarded the “Republic of Turkey Medal of Sacrifice” to Al-Zuhairi and the State of Palestine .
