The writer and journalist Rushdi Saleh Malhas was born in Nablus and studied in its schools before graduating from the School of Financial Sciences in Istanbul. During his studies, he managed the magazine "Lisan al-Arab" (The Tongue of the Arabs), edited by Ahmad Izzat al-A'zami. He was drafted into the army during World War I. After the war, he went to Damascus, where he resided for a period before moving to Haifa. From there, he returned to Nablus, where he received an offer to edit the newspaper "Umm al-Qura," published in Mecca. Rushdi Malhas gained the trust and admiration of King Abdulaziz Al Saud, who brought him close and promoted him until he became deputy to his friend Yusuf Yasin in the Political Department. He remained with the King for nearly thirty years, accompanying him on his travels. It is narrated that the founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said of Rushdi Malhas: "I can dispense with anyone else and find a replacement, but not with Rushdi Malhas." He died in Saudi Arabia. He authored seven books on religion, science, and King Abdulaziz.
