Nabil Ahmad Othman Abu Zneid (Abu Ahmad; born April 18, 1954 in Dura –) is a Palestinian politician, diplomat, and author. He was the head of the mission of the State of Palestine to the Netherlands and the acting representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization to the United States, and now serves as the head of the mission of the State of Palestine to Portugal.

Nabil Abu Zneid was born in the city of Dura, Hebron Governorate, in the south of the West Bank, during the Jordanian administration of the West Bank. He received his basic education in the city's schools. He also studied at Birzeit College and was a member of the Student Union Council in 1973.

 

He received a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from James Madison University in Virginia, a Master's degree in International Relations from Howard University in Washington, D.C., USA, and later a PhD in International Relations from the University of Warsaw in Poland.

 

He worked as a teacher of political science at An-Najah National University and was a member of its workers union in 1984. He also taught political science at Hebron University, and was an advisor on international relations and development to the chairman of the university’s board of trustees.

 

He wrote a book entitled “The Intifada and the State, the Struggle of the Palestinian People between 1967 and 1994.”

 

Abu Zneid served as deputy head of the Palestine Liberation Organization mission to the United States between 2004 and 2008. During this period, he participated in the Annapolis conference talks in November 2007.

 

He was assigned the duties of Acting Representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization to the United States until 2009.

 

On September 10, 2009, he handed over his credentials as Head of the Mission of the State of Palestine to the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxime Verhagen. He played an important role in the accession of Palestine to membership in the International Criminal Court in 2014.

 

On June 8, 2017, he handed over his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Portugal to Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Souza.
