Nasser al-Din Muhammad Ahmad al-Shaer (December 9, 1961 in Sebastia -), former Minister of Education in Palestine in the unity government.

 

He worked as the dean of the Faculty of Sharia at An-Najah National University, and he is an assistant professor in the Department of Jurisprudence and Legislation, specializing in comparative jurisprudence, and a professor of comparison of religions.

 

He held the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education in the previous government, during which he was detained for two months in the occupation prisons. He also held the position of Minister of Education in the unity government.

 

Educational attainment

1980: General Secondary Education, a science branch, from Sebastia Secondary School. 1985: Bachelor's degree in (Jurisprudence and Legislation) with an excellent grade from the Department of Islamic Studies at An-Najah National University in Nablus, with a rate of 85.13%. 1989: Master's degree in (Jurisprudence and Legislation) with an excellent grade from the Department of Islamic Studies at An-Najah National University in Nablus, and a master's thesis in (Usul al-Fiqh) on the subject (The Concept of Opposition to Fundamentalists). And when he got an excellent grade and was studying on a scholarship, he was appointed as a lecturer in the department after his graduation. 1996: PhD from the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Manchester, UK, and a doctoral dissertation that compared Islam and Judaism, including a special focus on the status of women in the two religions. 1998: Post-doctorate, he participated in a scientific program on religion and democracy in America, and obtained a certificate in that from the Institute of International American Studies at New York University.

Nasser Al-Din Al-Shaer was subjected to an assassination attempt, on July 22, 2022, when gunmen opened fire from inside a vehicle that stopped in front of Al-Shaer's vehicle, wounding him with about 6 bullets in his legs.

1985-1989: Teaching in public and private secondary schools in the field of education. 1989-1990: A faculty member in the Department of Islamic Studies at An-Najah National University in Nablus, after which he left the university on leave to study for a PhD in Britain. Since 1996: Faculty Member, Assistant Professor, Department of Jurisprudence and Legislation at the Faculty of Sharia at An-Najah National University, and a part-time teacher for a limited period at Al-Quds Open University. 2001: Dean of the Faculty of Sharia at An-Najah National University in Nablus.

The poet is married to Mrs. Hoda Abdul Karim Mahmoud, and he has two sons (Qasim and Abdullah) and four daughters (Tasneem, Janan, Arwa and Abrar).
