Taher Hamdi Taher Kanaan (born 1935) is a prominent Jordanian politician and economist of Palestinian origin, recognized for his significant contributions to economic development and political affairs. He held several key ministerial positions, including Minister of Affairs of the Occupied Territories and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in the fourth government of Zaid al-Rifai. Additionally, he served as Minister of State for Development Affairs in the first government of Fayez Tarawneh.
Born in Nablus in 1935, Dr. Taher Hamdi Kanaan hails from a political family, with his father, Hamdi Kanaan (1910-1981), also being a noted politician. He pursued his education at An-Najah College before obtaining a BA in economics from the American University of Beirut and a doctorate in economic sciences from the University of Cambridge in Britain.
Dr. Taher Hamdi Kanaan is a prolific author, having published nine books in English and three in Arabic, all centered on economic and development affairs in Palestine and the Arab world. His extensive experience and expertise have led him to hold various prestigious positions, including:
