Adel Abdel Karim Yassin (1933 - 30 June 2017) is a prominent Palestinian politician, born in the town of Balaa in the Tulkarm Governorate. He is one of the five founders of the contemporary Palestinian revolution and the Palestinian National Liberation Movement "Fatah", where the five founders are: Adel Abdel Karim Yassin and Yasser Arafat , Khalil Al-Wazir, Abdullah Al-Danan, and Tawfiq Shadid.


His upbringing and educational attainment
Adel Abdul Karim Yassin was born in the town of Balaa in the Tulkarm Governorate in 1933. He received his primary education in Palestine, then his family left for Syria in 1948, where he completed his preparatory and secondary education. After that, he joined the Faculty of Science at the Syrian University in Damascus to study a BA in Mathematics. He also obtained a Master’s degree in Mathematics in 1973, and a PhD in the same discipline from London in 1982.

His start in political life
During his university studies, Adel Abdul Karim Yassin participated with his friend Abdullah Al-Danan in forming the Association of the Sons of Palestine in Syria, in order to recruit Palestinians in Syria and train them to carry weapons. In 1955 he worked as a teacher in a school in Damascus, then he left for Kuwait in 1956, where he worked as a teacher.

At the end of 1958, Adel Abdel Karim met Yasser Arafat and Khalil Al-Wazir, where they discussed the Palestinian issue, and at the end of May 1959 another meeting was held in which it was agreed to establish a Palestinian organization working to liberate Palestine. The organization was organized in a very secretive manner, and Adel Abdel Karim participated in drafting the constitution and charter of the Fatah movement, and he was constantly writing the article "Our View" in the magazine "Our Palestine", and was signing in the name of "Fatah".

Adel Abdel Karim became a member of the Central Committee of the Fatah movement since its founding, then withdrew from the committee after the incident of the killing of Captain Youssef Orabi in May 1966, and the Syrian authorities accused Fatah leaders of killing him as a Baathist. He also withdrew with Adel Abdel Karim others, most notably Abdullah Al Danan .

Adel Abdul Karim turned to academic work, where he worked as a lecturer in Kuwait until 1992, then moved to teach at a university in Malaysia, and then settled in Sharjah.

Adel Abdel Karim Yassin died in the Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates on Friday, June 30, 2017, and Adel Abdel Karim mourned the President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian National Council Salim Al-Zanoun, and the Fatah movement.
