Ali Fathallah Al-Khalili was born in 1943 in the Yasmina neighborhood in the old city of Nablus. He obtained a high qualification in public administration from Beirut Arab University in 1966.

He worked as editor-in-chief of “Al-Fajr Al-Thaqafi” and then as editor-in-chief of “Al-Fajr” newspaper in Jerusalem. He served as assistant undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture from the founding of the Palestinian National Authority until 2005, and he was chosen as Cultural Personality of the Year in 2011.
He contributed to the establishment of the Palestinian Writers Union and the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate.

He published more than forty books, ranging from poetry, research, biography, novels, and popular literature, the most famous of which is his autobiography (House of Fire).

Among his collections of poetry: Terrains of Memory 1973, Nablus Goes to the Sea 1976, Composition for the Rose 1977, Dialectic of the Homeland 1978, Laughter from the Pummeling of Dammam 1978, Spread at the Camp Door 1978, The Dream is Still a Dangerous Endeavor 1980, Alone and Then the Garden Crowded 1981, We, O Lord 1984, Glory be to You, Glory be to Me 1990, The offerings are my brothers 1996, Give me the eye of contentment and give me the eye of discontent 1996.

His other creative works include: The Keys Turn in the Locks (a novel), Light in the Darkness (a story), Ayesh Tallin (stories for children), and Writing with Fingers (sentimental stories).

Among his books are: Palestinian Heritage and Classes, The Palestinian Hero in the Folk Tale, Children’s Songs in Palestine, Songs of Work and Workers in Palestine, The Arab Joke, The Ghoul: An Introduction to the Arab Myth, Conditions and Phenomena in the Literature of the Occupied Territories.

He died on October 2, 2013, at the age of 71; As a result of an incurable illness he suffered, his death represents a noticeable loss for Palestinian literature, which he fought over the past decades as an active and persistent national fighter, poet, writer, and researcher, after leaving clear imprints in Palestinian resistance literature.
