Tawfiq Mishlawi ( in English : Tewfik Mishlawi ) (1935 - January 24, 2012) was a Lebanese journalist , of Palestinian origin, who was well-known in the Middle East and the Arab world. [1]
He was born in 1935 in Haifa during the British Mandate over Palestine , and immigrated with his family to Lebanon as a result of the 1948 war . Eventually becoming a homogenous Lebanese, Mishlawi studied economics at the American University of Beirut .
Professional hierarchy
From 1963 to 1973, he served as deputy editor of The Daily Star , the only English-language daily newspaper in Lebanon.
From 1973 to 1976, he worked as a correspondent for the Beirut bureau of United Press International .
From 1973 to 1985, he was special Middle East correspondent for the Wall Street Journal .
From 1977 to 1979, he was a dedicated correspondent for Bloomberg Businessweek in New York City .
From 1980 to 1983, he was a special correspondent for The Times in London.
From 1985 to 1992, he was director of training at the Foreign Journalists Center in Reston , Virginia .
Since his return to Lebanon in 1992, he has continued to work on his own periodical, Middle East Correspondent (MER), a media compendium that would translate and summarize the Arab press for foreign diplomats and academics. He also conducted a number of workshops to train journalists during this period.
