Susan Qaoud (born in Nablus 1972-) is a Palestinian director and lecturer at Al-Quds University . She holds a Master's degree in television production from Moscow and Cardiff Universities . She has worked in the field of production since 1995, as a television producer and correspondent for MBC . She has directed and produced many feature-length documentaries.
In 2013, she co-founded Mashhad Production Company, a company that provides facilities to filmmakers and also produces feature films and television documentaries.
In 2019, Sawsan will launch the Jerusalem Center for Media Training in cooperation with Al-Quds University .
Her career
She lived in Palestine until the beginning of the first Intifada , then moved to Moscow to study media, and stayed there for a period of five years. She graduated in 1994, then began her training as a correspondent for MBC in Moscow. She returned to Palestine to work as a correspondent for MBC at its headquarters in Jerusalem.
She has directed feature films based on real-life stories of women. Her first film, which was a success during the Second Intifada, dealt with female soccer players who were imprisoned.
Qaoud's filmography includes Women on the Field, released in 2011, which shows the struggles of the Palestinian women's football team playing and training under the Israeli occupation .
In addition to the film “ Symphony of the Diaspora ,” which was released this year and documents how a number of musicians of Palestinian origin were chosen to play classical music in the West Bank and Israel.
Smuggled Sperm, a 90-minute documentary, tells the story of Shireen Nazzal, a Palestinian woman who becomes pregnant through artificial insemination after receiving sperm from her husband who is in an Israeli prison. In this film, Shireen tries to live life as a single mother in a conservative Palestinian society.
In 2019, she directed the film “Keeper of Memory,” which follows the stories of return documented by Tarek Al-Bakri and the stories of the Palestinians’ relationship with establishing their right to their land and the return of three generations from exile to visit their homes and villages from which they were forced to leave.
