Moaz Al-Amarneh (born in 1987 in the Dheisheh Palestinian refugee camp, southeast of Bethlehem) is a Palestinian photojournalist who works for several news agencies covering the Palestinian issue. Moaz was wounded by Israeli soldiers with a metal bullet in the left eye on November 15, 2019 while covering the clashes between Palestinians and the occupation army in the city of Surif between Jerusalem and Hebron in the West Bank.

Targeting
Injury
On the 15th of November 2019; Moaz al-Amarna was injured after a metal bullet fired by the occupation soldiers settled in his left eye, while documenting clashes that erupted between the Israeli army and Palestinians in the town of Surif, northwest of Hebron in the south of the occupied West Bank, following the confiscation of Palestinian lands belonging to the town by the Israeli occupation. According to Moaz himself, the occupation soldiers initially obstructed his access to the protest site; While one of them allowed him to do so after making fun of him and what he was doing, and Moaz al-Amarna believed that the soldier himself was most likely the one who shot him.

Moaz was taken immediately to the hospital in order to receive the initial treatments, as he was initially believed to have been hit in the left eye by a rubber bullet, before it turned out that a large metal shard about two centimeters long had done it, penetrating his eye and settling behind it, a few millimeters from the brain. The next day, the doctors tried to remove the metal splinter, but they held back, fearing that the right eye would also be damaged or even bleed into the brain.

Reactions

Immediately after being targeted by the occupation soldiers; Palestinian and Arab journalists launched an electronic and field campaign in solidarity with Al-Amarna through the hashtags "#Ain_Moaz" and "#Ain_al-Haqiqa_will not be extinguished" on social media, where they published their photos covering their left eyes with tape or by hand, in reference to his injury. Journalists in Palestine organized on the 17th of October November Several sit-ins in a number of Palestinian cities in solidarity with him and a call to punish the occupation for its crimes against journalists. Other sit-ins were held in the city of Tulkarm, in which about 250 journalists participated, in solidarity with Moaz; They also demanded the opening of an international investigation into all crimes against Palestinian journalists.

Al-Amarna enjoyed official solidarity as well, as Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh supported him when he covered his left eye at the beginning of the weekly government session, and the same thing was done by the Palestinian Minister of Health Mai Kaileh, while President Mahmoud Abbas called him and reassured him of his health informing him of the directives of all the competent authorities, including the Minister of Health He also condemned the attack on Amarna by the occupation forces, declaring his support for him. In the same context; Hamas accused the occupation of deliberately and continuously targeting the Palestinian media; Stressing that the targeting is "a new old policy that aims to obliterate the crimes of the occupation and combat the Palestinian narrative."
