Samih Farsoon (born in Haifa in 1937 - died June 9, 2005 in New Buffalo ), was a Palestinian- American academic and sociologist .
His life
He was born in Haifa in 1937 and received his primary education at the Frere School in Haifa . He took refuge with his family in Lebanon during the Nakba of 1948. He moved to the United States of America and enrolled in Hamilton College , where he studied physics and mathematics. He continued his graduate studies in sociology and obtained a doctorate from the University of Connecticut . He married Katha Kessman and they have a daughter.
He taught sociology at the American University in Washington for thirty years and chaired the Department of Social Sciences until his retirement in 2003. He founded the College of Arts and Sciences at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates and chaired its deanship from 1997 to 1999. In 2004, he was appointed Dean of the College of Arts at the American University in Kuwait until 2004.
He co-founded the Arab American University Alumni Association and the Arab Sociologists Association, served as editor of Arab Studies Quarterly , and was a member of numerous forums, including the advisory board of the London-based Journal of Holy Land Studies and the board of directors of the Jerusalem Fund .
He has about 75 publications, including articles, books, and book chapters, most of which are in English. His books have also been translated into Persian , French , Italian , and German . He has 6 books that focus on social and political affairs related to the Arab region,

Posthumous tribute
He died in 2005. The city of Ramallah immortalized him by naming one of its streets after Samih Farsoun.
