Wafi Abdul Salama Atallah was born in Gaza City on December 4, 1979. He is married and has three children. He studied primary school at Al-Farabi and Yarmouk schools, and secondary school at the Gifted School in Gaza City. He obtained his bachelor's degree from Gazi University in Ankara, and specialized in general surgery at Marmara University in Turkey. He was appointed head of the surgery department at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the Gaza Strip in 2010, then worked as a doctor and professor of general surgery at the Faculty of Medicine at Marmara University, becoming an assistant professor, then an associate professor in 2016, then a professor in 2021. He also works as a doctor at Anadolu Hospital.
Atallah has presented a number of medical inventions and treatment methods, as he invented a method to treat fistula disease using a chemical substance instead of surgery, and his method was approved in the International General Guide to Surgery, and it has been tried in more than twenty countries in the world, including Germany, Pakistan, Italy, Egypt and others, in addition to his invention of an operation called the "Wafi Operation" in 2023, to alleviate the complications of colon cancer patients, which makes the patient dispense with the external bag to empty the colon, which causes physical and psychological problems, and more than one study was conducted on the same operation and published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals, in addition to publishing it in a video to teach it to surgeons, and the operation was applied to 130 cases in more than one place in the world, and he also obtained a patent for a device called "Biofeedback" in 2020, which works to solve the problem of feedback for colon patients.
Atallah has received more than one award and title for his medical contributions, including: the Gold Medal for the Best Medical Invention of 2020, which was presented to him during his participation in the 5th Istanbul International Invention Fair under the supervision of the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology, the “Creative Doctor” Award in Turkey from Doktorclub Awards for 2021, and the title of Doctor of the Year 2021 in Turkey, for his invention of another medical device that helps patients with fecal incontinence get rid of the complications of the disease, alleviate its symptoms, and treat it.
He participated in international conferences such as WORLD EXPO Summit in Russia, published more than fifty-five scientific studies in international peer-reviewed journals, also published chapters in books, and received four awards related to the best studies presented in different conferences, the best scientific research at the General Surgery Conference in Turkey in 2022, and the best presentation at the Colon and Rectum Conference at an international conference in Antalya.
He believes that the opportunity to travel around the world and get to know different societies is an opportunity to introduce Palestine as a real entity and a vibrant society that graduates doctors and innovators. He believes that Palestine and the Gaza Strip in particular are a fertile environment for graduating elites and distinguished people in all fields, especially since creativity is born from the womb of difficulties and challenges. He believes that his role in medicine and surgery is a gateway to expressing belonging to the homeland, and that he seeks through his profession to serve his cause and his countrymen, whether by receiving patients from Palestine or even visiting the homeland to provide his services there or by receiving new Palestinian medical students and even training doctors and trying to provide them with everything they need in exile from study and living, in addition to serving the children of the Palestinian community in Türkiye.
He considers the siege of the Gaza Strip and the wars waged against it by the occupation to be the biggest challenge he faces abroad. His family, mother and brothers live in the Gaza Strip under siege, in addition to the recurring wars and escalation against the city, which makes him in a state of constant anxiety and fear of what could happen to them.
