Information

usrat Rashid Fadda Despite the importance of the Palestinian scientist Nusrat Rashid Fadda and his biography full of science, knowledge and achievements, Palestinian and Arab media figures and researchers did not do him justice in discussing this Palestinian national figure.

The scientist Nusrat Fadda was born in his city of Akka in 1923. He and his family emigrated to Lebanon following the Nakba of 1948. His large family was distributed in various asylum areas. He died in Germany on Thursday, August 5, 2022.

Before 1948, he worked as General Manager of the Construction Project - Jericho - Palestine, and the goal was to stabilize the Palestinians in their homeland by revitalizing agriculture. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Foundation for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA), near the city of Aleppo in northern Syria. He also worked as Director General of the Kuwait Development Fund.

He held the position of Director of Agricultural Research in Sudan, Ethiopia, Zambia and all of Africa. He worked on many major initiatives in supporting the field of university education for Palestinian students in Lebanon through the Palestinian Student Fund and helped dozens of Palestinian students in Lebanon directly, with the aim of completing their university education. Thus, he is unequivocally aware of the importance of science and knowledge in preserving the Palestinian national identity, as well as his contributions in the social field during all the crises faced by the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, and he contributed greatly to the establishment of the Burj el-Barajneh Palestinian refugee camp cemetery in Beirut.

He obtained a bachelor's degree in biology from the American University of Beirut. He initially studied law in London and worked for the British Radio for a period to pay off some debts due to the effects of the Nakba. He returned to complete his studies in agricultural engineering (dry areas) from the universities of London.

He was a friend of the Palestinian businessman Saeed Khoury and the poet Kamal Nasser at the American University of Beirut. He played a fundamental and prominent role in sending aid to Palestinian families during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, and he was also a contributor to helping Palestinian refugees who fled from Syria to Lebanon after 2012. May God have mercy on the scientist Nusrat Rashid Fadda and grant him paradise, and he will remain a beacon and an established Palestinian scientific icon Palestinian national identity.
