Ibrahim Mahwi (b. 1937 in Ramallah - ) is a translator, academic and literary critic from Palestine. He specializes in literature, folk arts, and Palestinian and Arabic translation.
Education and educational attainment
Al-Mahwi was born in Ramallah in 1937 to a Palestinian Christian family. After graduating from the Friends School, he moved to the United States in 1959 and settled in San Francisco. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Heald College. He also received his bachelor's degree in English in 1964 from California State University at Hayward, and his master's degree in 1966, and his Ph.D. in 1969, in English from the University of California, Davis.
the work
Worked as a Lecturer of English at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario from 1969-1975, Al-Mahwi held a position at the University of Jordan in Amman from 1975-1977, then went to the West Bank to serve as Chair of the English Department at Birzeit University from 1978 to 1980 He returned to work as Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Oregon in Eugene (2007).
Translations and books
He translated Mahmoud Darwish's Diaries of Ordinary Sorrow and Memory of Forgetfulness; He co-authored Say Ya Bird with Sharif Kanaana.
