Amin Al-Majj (March 21, 1921 in Ramallah - January 2, 1999 in
East Jerusalem) was a pediatrician and politician from Palestine.
Education and educational attainment
Amin Saleh Al-Majj was born in the city of Ramallah in 1921 to a
Christian family affiliated with the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the
Middle East. He received his education at the Bishop's School in East
Jerusalem. In 1945, Al-Majaj joined the American University in Beirut, where he
studied medicine and surgery, and later to the University of London, where he
specialized in pediatrics.
Hold positions
In 1950, Al-Majj was appointed head of the pediatric department
at Augusta Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem, and later took over its management
and then management of the Makassed Charitable Islamic Association Hospital.
Also in 1950, he was elected as a member of the Jerusalem Municipality, and
several times as Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem. He was appointed Minister of Health,
Construction and Development in Jordan in 1957, and Minister of Health in 1964.
He served as a member of the Jordanian National Assembly from 1967 to 1988. He
occupied one of the Jerusalem seats in the Jordanian Parliament from 1967-1988
AD; In addition to positions in hospitals located in Jerusalem, Gaza and
Nablus.
On July 5, 1994, Rawhi al-Khatib, the secretary of the Jerusalem
Municipality, passed away, and Amin al-Majj was assigned to assume the position
until the Jordanian businessman Zaki al-Ghoul was chosen in 1998. Israel does
not recognize this position.
personal life
Amin Al-Majj married Betty Dagher in 1947, and they had one son
and three daughters.
Death
Amin Al-Majj died in Jerusalem on January 2, 1999, and was
buried there.
