Dweik is the Director General of the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR), the Palestinian national human rights organization. Dweik holds a Ph.D. in Social Policy and Administration from Brandeis University in the USA, a Master’s degree in Law and Governance from America’s University in Washington, D.C., a Bachelor of Laws from Yarmouk University in Jordan, and a Diploma in Police Sciences from the Police Academy in Cairo.
Dweik teaches public policy, public administration, and public law at the Faculty of Law and Public Administration at Birzeit University. He has long and diverse national and regional experience in electoral administration, human rights, good governance and access to justice. He served as Chairman of the Palestinian Elections Commission during the period 2004-2006, during which he managed the Palestinian presidential elections of 2005 and the parliamentary elections of 2006. Dweik is the author and co-author of numerous studies, legal reports, and policy papers. In addition, he participated in drafting several draft laws and regulations, including the Palestinian Local Elections Law, the Palestinian Public Meetings Law, and the executive regulations of the Palestinian Public Associations Law.
