Saleem Zaroubi ( in English : Saleem Zaroubi ) is a Palestinian professor, researcher and lecturer from the Palestinians of the interior, specializing in the field of cosmic physics , and a researcher in the history of the formation of the universe . He was born in 1963. His interests include the origin and development of the complex structure in the universe, the characteristics of cosmic microwave radiation that was released about 370 thousand years after the Big Bang , the emergence of the first galaxies and their impact on the state of gas in the universe, the physics of intergalactic medium, and the impact of dark matter and dark energy on the development of the universe and the complex structure in it.

His upbringing and studies

Zarubi was born and raised in the Galilean city of Nazareth, the eldest of five children. He received his elementary education at the Baptist School in Nazareth, graduating in 1981. He earned his BA and MA degrees from the Technion in Haifa, and his PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1994. He then moved immediately to work as a researcher at the University of California, and the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics near Munich, Germany, in 1998.

Scientific achievements

Among Zarubi's most notable achievements are that he was the first to develop statistical methods for cosmological reconstruction from observational data, to measure the temperature of intergalactic gas as a function of time, especially about ten billion years ago, and to make a major contribution to the study of the so-called " Cosmic Epoch of Reionization" and the possibility of observing it. [

In 2004, he and two colleagues initiated a major project aimed at measuring the extent of hydrogen gas ionization in the universe as a function of time, in order to reveal the nature of the first galaxies and stars in the universe that began to form about 300 million years after the Big Bang. This project uses the European radio telescope known as LOFAR, which is based in the Netherlands .[2][3][4][5]

In 2004 he moved to the University of Groningen in the Netherlands where he worked as a university lecturer at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute, in 2006 he became an Associate Professor there, and since 2010 he has been a Full Professor.

current work

Since 2016, Zaroubi has been working at the Open University in addition to the University of Groningen.

Salim Zaroubi frequently appears in meetings with students in various schools as well as in lectures intended for the general public.

Since 2015, he has started writing scientific articles about the universe and its history for the general public in Arabic, which he publishes on the “I Believe in Science” website. He also has several political and social articles.

Grants and Awards

During his scientific career, Zaroubi received a large number of scientific awards and grants and has more than 120 scientific and academic research publications.
