Dr. Akram worked as a lecturer at the American University of Jenin for three years before joining the Faculty of Law at An-Najah National University. In 2007, Dr. Akram joined the academic staff at An-Najah National University and shortly thereafter, in January 2008, he became the Dean of the Faculty of Law. Previously, the Faculty of Law was a traditional educational institution, but Dr. Akram’s vision for the Faculty of Law at An-Najah National University led him to use his experience studying abroad as a reference to enable the Faculty to open up to modern legal topics and cultures and to open up outlets for the Faculty, its students and faculty to all parts of the world and to diverse and different global cultures.

Dr. Akram has taken the Faculty of Law at An-Najah National University to unprecedented levels. Through his deanship, he has been keen to establish unprecedented relationships with international legal and academic communities. Since assuming the position of Dean of the Faculty of Law until now, the Faculty has been making steady strides towards opening up to the world. Dr. Akram has encouraged the ambitions of many faculty members and students to join international academic programs, introduced a policy of internationalizing faculty members, and helped many faculty members teach and participate in many research and professional opportunities at foreign universities. In addition to his interest in establishing relationships with the international community, he has established a number of partnerships with national and local institutions.

Dr. Akram has encouraged the introduction of modern and innovative teaching methods, including the Legal Clinic, through which he aims to provide legal services to marginalized segments of society. Previously, it was not included as a course in the Faculty of Law’s curriculum, but today it has become one of the approved study hours in the Faculty’s curriculum. He has also encouraged the teaching staff to interact with students, all with the aim of producing thinking legal minds with a legal and research curiosity to reach the best legal solutions. Dr. Akram believes that the educational process cannot be completed in isolation from the rest of the world. Openness to new cultures not only calls for constructive dialogue and exchange of experiences, but also has the ability to inspire people in innovative ways.

Dr. Akram is convinced of the need to change the traditional concepts prevailing in the Faculty of Law and in Palestine in general. Despite the challenges imposed by the reality of the Israeli occupation of Palestine, which sometimes had a hand in preventing international students and professors from coming to Palestine, Dr. Akram succeeded in bringing many academic opportunities to An-Najah University in the hope that this will highlight and raise the role of the Faculty of Law at An-Najah University within the legal community in Palestine. As for the future vision of the Faculty of Law at An-Najah National University, Dr. Akram believes that it will have a clear and tangible impact in various legal fields locally and internationally.
