Teaching experience:
In my first two years of residency at the University of Missouri-Kansas City I gave many lab sessions for
medical students at the UMKC School of Medicine, I was responsible for procuring gross specimens and
histopathology slides for the lab sessions.
In my senior years I was responsible for giving lectures as well as lab sessions for medical students, the
subjects I lectured about included cardiovascular system, hematolymphoid system, and general pathology,
among others. Also I was responsible for teaching new residents the basics of pathology practice
including gross examination as well as normal histology, histopathology, cytology and autopsy
procurement and reporting. Additionally I was responsible for the weekly “unknown slides” conference in
which we examine 10 slides and discuss the finding with one of the attending pathologist.
Also, I gave several lectures to the histotechnologists and the technologists who worked in the
hematology sections regarding various subjects in pathology, quality control, regulations, and safety
among others.
In my hematopathology fellowship at Indiana University I took teaching roles with the residents and
medical students rotating through the hematopathology department, including lectures, unknown slides,
flow cytometry reporting, and coagulation. In addition to that, I presented several lab sessions to medical
students regarding various hematopathology subjects. I also presented journal clubs on a monthly basis,
and I presented a grand round regarding the use of flow cytometry in the assessment of MRD in plasma
cell dyscrasias.
In the short time I spent at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, I was responsible for the residents’
teaching through the weekly unknown-slide conference.
