Ibtisam M. Mahmoud, born in Kuwait for a Palestinian family in 1963, is a medical librarian at McGill University Health Centre, Montreal, Canada. She received her Master’s degree (MBSI) en Bibliothéconomie et des Sciences de L’information from the Université de Montréal, and her DGSL in library studies from Concordia University. 
 
Mrs. Mahmoud is a scholar librarian who has made several contributions to scholarship, in both English and Arabic, including the co-authored voluminous prize-winner bibliography (610 pages in 12 languages, including English and French) on genocide and war crimes in the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, entitled: A Selected Socio-Legal Bibliography on Ethnic Cleansing, Wartime Rape and Genocide in the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda (Lewiston, N. Y.: The Edwin Mellen Press, 2004). Since her graduation, she was also commissioned to make indexes for a number of books published by different publishers of scholarly works, including Oxford University Press. 
 
Besides being a professional librarian, Mrs. Mahmoud is a writer, translator, and a dedicated human rights advocate, focussing on the protection of women during armed conflicts. Her scholarly and journalistic works were published in both Arabic and English.
 

Achievements and Awards

Adèle Mellen Prize, 2005, awarded to her co-authored book “A Selected Socio-Legal Bibliography on Ethnic Cleansing, Wartime Rape and Genocide in the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda” (Lewiston, N.Y.: The Edwin Mellen Press, 2005) for its distinguished contribution to scholarship.
