Ma’n H. Zawati (LL.B., LL.M.) is a lawyer and the Executive Director of the Centre of Genomics and Policy at McGill University. He is also an Associate Member of the University’s Biomedical Ethics Unit since 2013. His research focuses on the legal and ethical aspects of biobanking as well as the legal duties and liability of health care professionals in both the clinical and research settings. He has published numerous articles on issues such as access to genomic databases, the return of research results/incidental findings, the legal liability of physicians and the closure of biobanks. Mr. Zawati has also presented on these topics in Canada and internationally. Recently, the Young Bar Association of Montreal named him as one of its “Lawyer of the Year” awardees for 2014.
 
He is currently a lecturer at the University of Montreal, having taught Biological Sciences Law (DRT3802G) and Civil Liability (DRT1222G) courses. Mr. Zawati is also a frequent guest lecturer at the Faculties of Law and Medicine at McGill University and the Faculty of Law at the Université de Sherbrooke. He currently supervises the Health Law and Policy elective (Winter session) as well as the Research Internship in Genomics and Policy course (HGEN 674 – Winter session) at the Faculty of Medicine, McGill University.
 
Mr. Zawati is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Fondation Sauve Ta Peau – Québec (2014 – present), the External Advisory Board of the Quebec Network for Personalized Health Care (2014 – present), the International Steering Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Biobank Collaborative Network (2013 – present) and the Board of Directors of the Gene Cure Foundation (2013 – present). He currently chairs the ethical and legal working groups of WHO’s Biobanking Collaborative Network and Concordia University’s PERFORM Project and heads the Access Office of the Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow Project. Between 2012 – 2014, Mr. Zawati sat on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Bioethics Society, representing Eastern Canada. He is currently completing his Doctoral degree in law (D.C.L.) at McGill University.
