Born in Samakh (the south end of Lake Tiberius) in 1942. After al-Nakba occurred in 1948, his family moved to al-Himma; then moved again because of the Zionist aggression in 1967, completed his elementary and secondary degrees in al-Himma. Studied Philosophical and Literary studies in Damascus University, an MA from faculty of Education in 1969; PhD from Ein-Shams University in 1978; worked as a teacher at the Relief Agency of the United Nations from 1960 until 1975.
