Izzat al-Ghazzawi (December 4, 1951 - April 4, 2003) was a Palestinian writer and writer. He was born in the village of Deir al-Ghusun in Tulkarm Governorate. He wrote about the suffering of the Palestinian people and was arrested several times by the Israeli authorities because of his "political activities." He was a professor at Birzeit University, and won the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought in 2001, and the Norwegian Prize for Creative Freedom in 1994.
