Moayad Al-Atili (born March 13,
1951 - died January 30, 2013 in Jordan), a Palestinian poet who wrote several
collections of poetry.
his life
He completed the first secondary
grade, and after the Zionist gangs occupied the rest of the Palestinian
territories, he fled with his mother and sisters to Amman. He studied the
second grade of scientific secondary school at Al-Hussein Secondary College,
then he traveled with his family to Kuwait, where his older brother works as a
teacher there. He studied high school in Al-Fahaheel High School.
Study and politics
He traveled on a scholarship to
Algeria, where he joined the Faculty of Medicine there for two years. He
started publishing his poems early and continued publishing in the Algerian
newspaper Al-Shaab. During the second year, he traveled to France and Germany,
being active in the ranks of the Palestinian student movement. He interrupted
his studies and returned to Jordan. At the end of 1970, he joined the
University of Jordan, Faculty of Economics and Commerce. He continued to
publish his poems in the Jordanian Al-Rai newspaper, in addition to university
publications. He joined the ranks of the Jordanian Communist Party in 1971, was
active in the banned student movement at the time, and participated in editing
the publications of the banned Student Union, especially in the cultural
aspect. He was arrested at the end of the third year because of his activity in
the student movement and his party affiliation. He was banned from traveling
and his passport was confiscated until 1989. During his university studies, he
became a member of the Jordanian Writers Association since its inception in
1974.

He issued his first book, “Ayna
Holds the Guillotine,” in 1976. In the same year, he began working as an
employee at the Arab Land Bank in Amman, and continued working until 2003, when
he chose early retirement. He continued to publish his poems in Jordanian
newspapers and published several collections of poetry, as well as a number of
novels. He was an active member of the Jordanian Writers Association and was
elected for more than one session in the administrative body of the
association, as secretary in the period 1992-1994, and vice president from June
2011 until his departure. He was also Member of the Arab Writers Union. He
headed the Syndicate of Banking, Insurance and Accounting Workers (1993/1994)
and was elected a member of its administrative board for several sessions. He
ran for parliamentary elections in Jordan in the 2003 parliament session. He
participated in a number of international festivals on human rights and the
fight against poverty in the world, especially those held in Brazil and Kenya.
He was the coordinator of the cultural program at the Jerash Festival for
Culture and Arts (2012). He headed the League’s delegations to the meetings of
the permanent office of the General Union of Arab Writers in Cairo and Algeria,
and the General Conference of the Union in Bahrain (2011-2012). (about Asia).
his death
He died in the Hashemite Kingdom of
Jordan on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, two days after he was involved in a
traffic accident on the way to Aqaba.
