Jihad Al-Masry (1963-2023) is a Palestinian historian born in Rafah . He holds a BA in History from Yarmouk University in Jordan in 1987, and a Master’s degree in Islamic History from Al al-Bayt University in 1999. The title of his thesis was “Education in the Levant during the Ayyubid Era .” 

He worked as a director at the Oral History Center at Al-Quds Open University in Khan Yunis and as an academic and administrative assistant to the director of Al-Quds Open University in Rafah from 2003 until 2022, then he was appointed director of the university’s Khan Yunis branch until his martyrdom in the Palestinian-Israeli war .

He, his wife and daughter were killed in an Israeli air strike on October 29, 2023. 

His life

Jihad Suleiman Al-Masry worked as a lecturer in Libya at the Teachers' Institutes of the Ministry of Education during the period (1988-1994). He also worked as a teacher in several private schools in Jordan during the period (1994-1998), and in UNRWA schools in Jordan from 1998 to 2000. He then returned to Gaza to be a lecturer at Al-Azhar University , the Islamic University and Al-Aqsa University in Gaza for a year, then a lecturer at Al-Quds Open University in Rafah from 2001 to 2002.

His literary works

Al-Masry has published several books, research papers and historical studies, including: 

Research entitled “The Problem of Frankish Women’s Participation in the Fighting Against Muslims During the Crusades on Egypt and the Levant,” 2019.
A historical model for achieving a social peace system: Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, 2018.
