Criticism and studies about the novelist

Coal Awards: Studies in the Novels of Ahmed Rafiq Awad, Ali Al-Khawaja, Palestinian Institute for National Guidance, Ramallah, 2003.

The Different: In the world of the novelist and playwright Ahmed Rafiq Awad, by the poet and writer Al-Mutawakkil Taha, 2011.

The poet Al-Mutawakkil Taha described him as being clear and distinctive in his approach, a writer of stories and plays, bold in his social and political presentation, unlike many around him. He wrote the story “A Man Under Occupation” in 1984 in “Al-Fajr Al-Adabi” magazine, and it was one of the first stories that combined the two acts of occupation and backwardness and backward social patterns, and presented a different content that was not prevalent at the level of form and content, and it was evidence that the Palestinian creator inside the occupied land was fully aware of the historical moment, its conditions and its outcomes.

In the book's introduction, Dr. Ali Al-Khawaja says of him: "Ahmed Rafiq Awad possesses a turbulent, impatient, and visionary expressive energy, with the elements necessary for its enduring power and effectiveness. His novels constantly carry within them stimuli that urge our immune systems to vigilance, caution, and confrontation. His writings are laden with a fetus being born and a newborn dying, his train traversing the alienation of alienation, where boundaries dissolve, and where, for Ahmed Rafiq Awad, the novel is a fusion of society, humanity, the psyche, history, geography, and language in the crucible of suggestion and memory." He possesses a profound artistic and literary vision that draws its strength from the Palestinian reality and the depth of daily life we endure under imposed circumstances. He was always searching for truth and creativity, far removed from the falsification of reality. He held a brush that painted the face of the land and the face of woman, a Palestinian world pulsating with thought, culture, and art that springs from the womb of the land, oil, and olives. He was drawn to history and wrote about it with profound insight in purely Palestinian novels.
