Elias Sanbar is a Palestinian historian, poet, and essayist who was born in Haifa 1947, has taught in Lebanon and at Princeton University.
Elias Sanbar fifteen months old when his family moved to Lebanon after the proclamation of the State of Israel. In 1969 he continued his studies in Paris. Subsequently, he taught international law at Paris VII. He then taught in Lebanon and the United States at the Princeton University.
In 1981, Elias Sanbar helped found in Paris, of the Palestinian Studies Review, broadcasting organ of the Institute for Palestine Studies 1, review of which he became the editor. The magazine ceased publication in 2008.
He participated in the bilateral negotiations in Washington, conducted from 1993 to 1996, the Palestinian delegation to the negotiations on refugees. He is also a member of the Palestine National Council since 1988. He is a member of the sponsoring committee of the Russell Tribunal on Palestine which work began March 4, 2009.
He is currently the Palestinian ambassador to UNESCO.
