Born in Firi'm village, Safad 1946. After al-Nakba, his family emigrated to Lebanon and then to Syria where he educated; studied Arabic language and Literature at Damascus University. In 1972, he joined the Syrian Army; worked as a teacher; received his MA from Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut. In 1980, he moved to Algeria where he worked as a lecturer at University of Annaba (on the north eastern coast of Algeria); while working, he joined Tunis University and received his PhD in the Modern Arabic Literature.
