Born in Beersheba 1936, emigrated with his family to Hebron in 1948 then to Gaza in 1949 where he finished his secondary education 1954. Shawwa worked as a teacher in Gaza schools; received a Licentiate in Arabic language and Literature 1964. In the middle of 1970's, he moved to Cairo in order to continue his higher education; received a Diploma in Islamic Issues 1971; Pre-Master in 1979 and resided in Cairo since then; established along with Hasan Al-Khudari a musical institute in Cairo 1973.
