Mahmoud Muhareb (born 1952) is a prominent Palestinian historian, researcher on Arab society in Israel and university lecturer, leader and former Secretary-General of the National Democratic Gathering Party, and a former founding member of the Abnaa al-Balad movement.

 

He received his primary education in Lod, his hometown, and completed his secondary education at the Arab Orthodox College in Haifa. He obtained a BA in Political Science from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. In 1986 he obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Reading in Britain in political science.

 

He is the author of many books, and most of his research deals with topics: the Arab-Israeli conflict, Zionism, Israel, and the Palestinian cause.

He was involved in national work from a young age and headed in the second half of the seventies of the last century the Committee of Arab Students at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and contributed to the establishment of the Union of Committees of Arab University Students. He worked as director of the Research Center of the Association for Arab Studies in occupied Jerusalem from 1987 until 1990. Editing the research magazine “Issues” in occupied Jerusalem between 1989 and 1992. He worked as a professor of political science and cultural studies at Bethlehem University in the years 1990 and 2000, and a professor of political science and Israeli studies at the Institute of Regional Studies at Al-Quds University since 2001. He worked as director of the Institute of Regional Studies at Al-Quds University between 2003 and 2006.
