Elham Dwairy Tabry (Hebrew: אלהאם דווירי תאברי) (in English: Elham Dwairy Tabry), born on January 11, 1947, is a Palestinian writer and educational specialist.
Biography
Ilham Doueiri Tabri was born in Nazareth. She is the third child among five children in a conservative Arab family. Her parents are Adeeb Dahdouh Doueiri, an architect, and Loris Iskandar Kawar, a housewife. I was educated at the Franciscan School in Nazareth, which at the time was a school for girls only. When she was young, Elham used to read constantly and borrow books from her uncle's home library, the poet Dr. Jamal Kawar, because at that time there were no public libraries to borrow books in Nazareth and the district.
In 1972, she obtained a qualification certificate for teaching through the program of the Ministry of Education in Nazareth to train teachers. In 1986, she obtained the certificate of a senior teacher of English for preparatory classes. In 1989, she received her first degree in Education and Arabic Language and Literature from the University of Haifa. In 1997, she obtained her MA in Education from Loughborough University in Britain. In 1995 she studied text therapy/bibliotherapy from the Oranim Academic College of Education.
She started working in the education sector as a middle school teacher immediately after graduating from the twelfth grade and continued until 1997. Elham started writing articles on education in 1994 while she was working as a teacher and as a community coordinator in the school. Al-Qasim is the managing editor of the newspaper. Elham also wrote for various newspapers and magazines, including: Al-Mawakeb Magazine, Lady Magazine, Panet website, Bokra website and Al-Sanara newspaper.
She published her first story, “The Egg,” in 1994. To this day, she has written and published 62 children’s stories, 9 short stories for teenagers, and two books on education. Her stories are a series of various stories: the Firas series, the Hana series, and the Kushkush series. All of its publications are from Dar El Ilham publications, which were set up by Elham. Since 2009, Kushkush has been a hero of educational theatrical performances in nurseries, kindergartens, primary schools, community centers and theaters throughout the country and in the Palestinian Authority. Dwere Tabre has directed and written screenplays for plays and songs. Elham has developed fun thinking games using the character Kushkush.
In 2004 Elham won the Creativity Award for Arabic Literature from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.
In November 2015, at the initiative of the Nazareth Municipality and the management of the Nazareth Festival for Children's Theater, an evening was held in honor of Elham Doueiri Tabri, in appreciation of her efforts, her great educational and literary role, and her distinguished giving to children, the family, and society in general, especially through the Kushkush series stemming from her collection of stories. During the week of the festival, an exhibition of Kushkush's story drawings was held, in addition to the drawings of her other collection of stories.
The Kushkush character created by Ilham has become one of the most popular characters in the country's Arab community.
Ilham Doueiri Taberi's stories were selected in the Book March program organized by the Ministry of Education for the years 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019.
In November 2019, Her Stories/Ruffles drawings were exhibited in an exhibition of drawings within the framework of Drawings Week, on the initiative of the Art Department of the Municipality of Tel Aviv-Yafo.
Elham wrote scripts for the TV program “Amal Al Haretna”, which was broadcast on educational television.
Since May 2017, Elham has been a guest specializing in education in a live broadcast program on Makan Radio, in which she talks about various issues in education and answers parents' questions during the broadcast.
Elham worked as a lecturer in colleges to teach education to the early childhood generation. She taught at the Oranim Academic College of Education and at the Open University. Elham gives lectures and as a guest lecturer at universities and academic institutes in Israel and in the Palestinian Authority for education staff and parents.
Elham is married to Edouard Tabre, a mechanical engineer and architect, and is the mother of three children. Her husband and children are partners in writing her stories: her husband and daughter Sawsan do the language review, her daughter Faten draws her first stories, her son Kamal draws the stories of the Ruffle series and other stories.

The Firas series, starring a child named Firas, contains traditional stories and stories from the child's daily experiences. A series of Hana starring a girl named Hana for the infant generation. The aim of its plot is to address the sensory, emotional and intellectual aspects. The Kushkush series tells about a child named Kushkush, who is the hero of Elham's stories. The name Kushkush is a fictional name that is unlike any name for a child in our local Arab environment. Kushkush was named to avoid children mocking a child bearing his name. Ruffle's character in stories is like all children, including the funny, the imperfect, the naughty, the curious and the curious. Elham also used the character of "kushkoush" with a group of fun activities in pamphlets that aimed at the mental-emotional development of children.
Elham wrote a biography of The Lily and Rose Seller, which contains 10 short stories. 8 of which are autobiographical. She is the author of 5 therapeutic autobiographical short stories for teens and adults.
Elham Doueiri Taberi is the author of many stories that cover topics such as gender roles and the Arab family in relation to modernity and traditionalism.
I wrote about death, divorce, bullying, and child abuse, especially. I wrote two stories for prevention and sexual awareness, sexual harassment and pedophilia, which is a taboo topic in Arab society and the Arab world as a whole, such as the story “Kushkush’s Body” published in 2001 and “Kushkush the Castle Guard” in 2008.
