Mahmoud Saeed Ali Mansour Al-Karmi (born in 1889 in Tulkarm - assassinated on December 24, 1939 in Beirut) is a Palestinian writer, linguist, poet, writer, thinker and political journalist. Thinkers of the Twentieth Century in Palestine and Jordan. He was born in the city of Tulkarm, Palestine, to a well-known family. His father is Saeed Al Karmi, and his brothers Abdel Karim, Hassan, Abdel Ghani and Ahmed Shaker. He graduated from Al-Azhar with a degree in Arabic, and worked in the field of Arabic language in Egypt, Eritrea, Somalia, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan for many years, and also worked as a journalist. He was assassinated by his political opponents in Beirut.

Mahmoud Saeed Ali Mansour Al-Karmi was born in the year 1889AD / 1307AH in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm and grew up there in a well-known family in literature. He was educated in his hometown, then joined Al-Azhar with his brother Ahmed Shaker Al-Karmi, where Mahmoud graduated in 1919 in the field of Arabic language.

At the beginning of his working life, Mahmoud Al-Karmi taught in schools in Egypt, including Dar Al-Uloom School in Cairo. He also worked as a linguistic editor for theatrical novels, including plays and novels by the Egyptian playwright Salama Hegazy. He then moved to the city of Massawa in Eritrea and taught the Arabic language there for a while, from which he went to Damascus in the Syrian Republic and was appointed inspector of the knowledge of Houran, then director of the Al-Malik Al-Zahir School in Damascus, after which he went to the Emirate of Transjordan to meet his father, and was appointed on May 20, 1923 as director of Salt High School In 1924, he was appointed principal of Amman Secondary School until he resigned from his government job.

Mahmoud Al-Karmi edited the first Jordanian newspaper that was established, the Arab newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Arabi, which was founded in 1923, and was the official newspaper of the Jordanian Emirate. After that, Al-Karmi founded and issued Al-Sharia newspaper in Amman, and took over its editor-in-chief.

The British government accused him of participating in the Black Palm Society. I transferred him as a teacher to Hebron High School, where he remained for five years, and then to Al-Saleh Secondary School in Nablus. Al-Karmi participated in the Great Palestinian Revolution in 1936 and later took the position of opposing it when he saw that its approach had changed, so he had to leave Palestine for Beirut, and there he continued his work in the political press until he was assassinated.

 

 

Achievements and Awards

In honor of Mahmoud Al Karmi and his contributions, a street in the Jordanian capital, Amman, was named after him, specifically in the Abdoun neighborhood of the capital.
