Helmy Misbah Hafez Abu Shaaban (1911 - January 11, 1978) was a Palestinian writer, poet and writer .

his life

Helmy began his working life as an editor in "Sawt al-Haq" newspaper. At the end of the twenties, its owner, lawyer Fahmy Bey al-Husseini, wrote his first article denouncing the existence of the British Mandate over Palestine and the Balfour Declaration . After that, Helmy worked in 1930 as Bashkatib in the Gaza municipality, then as secretary and treasurer for the Gaza municipality. 1934. With the advent of 1936, he began presenting the program “Hadith al-Massa” on Palestine Radio “Hana al-Quds.” After that, Helmy turned to commerce and opened his first school library in Gaza, “The Hashemite Library,” now. In the middle of 1945 AD, Mr. Abdul Hamid Shoman came to Gaza The founder of the Arab Bank, and he was chosen by Mr. Helmy Abu Shaaban to establish the first branch of the Arab Bank in Gaza.

Positions held

Member of the Gaza Municipal Council In 1946, Helmy ran in the municipal elections as a representative of the Rimal area and became a member of the Gaza Municipal Council. After the year 1948 AD, Helmy had a good relationship with the Egyptian administration men by virtue of his position as director of the Arab Bank and a member of the municipal council, starting with [Major General Mustafa al-Sawaf] the mayor of Gaza [and Major General Abdullah Refaat] the governor of Gaza and he was recording his meetings under the title “From their homes” in the Gaza newspaper On March 7, 1952, he was promoted by transferring him to Egypt, where he left Gaza in April 1952 to assume the position of director of the Arab Bank in the city of Mahalla al-Kubra in Egypt . A few months after he assumed his new position, the July 23, 1952 revolution took place. Helmy sent a telegram in support of Major General Muhammad Najib , the leader of the revolution.

Homecoming

In 1963 AD, Helmy returned to Gaza as director of the Arab Bank branch, and established a new building for him, which is currently the Al-Saha branch, and he continued his work until the setback of 1967 AD and Israel’s seizure of Gaza 5/6/1967 AD.

He died in the Gaza Strip on January 11, 1978 .
