Palestinian businessman and politician Hikmat Taher Darwish Al-Masry was born in Nablus to a wealthy family active in economics and politics.
He studied in Nablus and then moved to Beirut, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in economic and commercial sciences from the American University.
He founded the Vegetable Oil Company in Nablus and managed it for many years.
In 1950, Al-Masry served as a member of the House of Representatives, and in 1956 he became Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives.
In 1964, Hikmat Al-Masri became a member of the Jordanian Senate until 1970. He returned to membership in the Senate again on 1/12/1984.
He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of An-Najah National University from 1977 until his death in 1993
