Munther Abdullah Muhammad Dahla , ( August 27, 1962 - ) is a Palestinian-American scientist , professor and academic , born in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm . He is an internationally known scientist in the field of control, and has made scientific contributions in the fields of control engineering, technology, smart cities and sustainable development. He has a number of patents officially registered in his name. He is the president of the Institute for Data, Systems and Society at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , and has won a number of international awards. He is the brother of the scientist Muhammad Dahla .

Munther Abdullah Muhammad Dahla was born in the city of Tulkarm in the West Bank on August 27 , 1962. He obtained a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1983 from Texas A&M University in the United States of America , and a doctorate in electrical engineering in 1987 from Rice University in the United States of America .

Munther Dahleh has been an academic and professor at MIT since 1987 , and on July 1, 2015 , he assumed the position of Chair of the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society at MIT .
