Lebanon’s Prime Minister Mikati Receives Tablet, Manufactured by TAGTech Factory in Lebanese University
BEIRUT - The Prime Minister of Lebanon, HE Mr. Najib Mikati, has patronized the opening ceremony of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh for Technology (TAGTech) factory at the Lebanese University in Al Fanar Branch, in the presence of Minister of Industry, HE Mr. George Bouchikian, Minister of Education and Higher Education, HE Dr. Abbas Halabi, the University President, Prof. Bassam Badran, and representative of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh in Lebanon for Culture and Media, Mr. Burhan Al Ashkar.
During the ceremony, Mr. Mikati praised the efforts of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh in supporting the Arab youth, particularly the Lebanese, by enabling them to gain and enhance technological skills that meet the needs and requirements of the labor markets.
He said that the opening of the TAGTech factory at the Lebanese University is an exceptional and significant milestone that is consistent with the efforts of the Lebanese University, especially since the University has returned to prominence and regained its esteemed scientific standing at the local, regional, and global levels. “This underscores the University’s ongoing commitment to achieve excellence in technology industry and scientific research domains,” Mr. Mikati stated, adding that "the newly opened factory would undoubtedly become a hub for creativity, innovation and manufacturing. It will have also a positive impact on the University community and the national industry".
Mr. Mikati further added: “Today, we are celebrating together the opening ceremony of this factory at the Pierre Gemayel Campus at the University, marking a crucial transition in the march of Lebanese universities to steadily move towards enhancing and embracing innovation. This remarkable initiative would efficiently offer promising opportunities for young generations by connecting education to global technical capabilities, and bolstering high-quality local industries to compete against imported equivalents, as they will be developed by experts, academics and students within the University.”
Mr. Mikati pointed out that the opening of this factory is the outcome of a collaborative effort between the Lebanese University and TAG.Global attributed to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh’s belief in the potential and ability of the Arab and Lebanese youth to gain and develop technological skills, supporting the innovative industrial designs developed by academics and graduates by patenting their innovations and integrating them into production lines.
He further expressed his wishes for a speedy and full recovery to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, who regrettably could not attend the ceremony due to health condition, extending his regards and gratitude to him.
At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Manal Khater, in her capacity as the TAGTech/ Lebanese University Branch manager, presented the first produced tablet from the University factory to Mr. Mikati. Later on, the Prime Minister took a tour of the factory, where he was briefed on the efforts and progress made in this facility.
