Saint Mary Haddad Bawardi was born in the Galilean village of Ibelin, between the cities of Nazareth and Haifa, on January 5, 1846 AD during the Ottoman era, to a Melkite Greek Catholic family. Meriem Bawardi lived in Alexandria, Jerusalem, Beirut, and Marseille in France; She knew many pains in her life since she was young.

On May 17, 2015, the canonization of the two Palestinian nuns was announced. Maryam Bawardi Haddad and Marie-Alphonsine, by Pope Francis in the religious mass held by the Vatican in St. Peter’s Square, in the presence of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and local and international delegations.

President Mahmoud Abbas said in his speech about the canonization of the nuns Haddad and Ghattas: These two virtuous women, these saints, daughters of our people, are our support.
