Helmi Al-Muhtaseb
Among the Jerusalemite figures to whom the book devotes attention is Sheikh Hilmi al-Muhtasib (1906-1982), one of the pillars of endowments and Islamic sanctities. He had a political and administrative personality armed with faith.
In his mid-twenties, he traveled to Cairo and studied at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and obtained two certificates: Al-Ahilin and Al-Ilmiyya li-Ghuraba, which is a specialized study in Islamic law.
After the 1967 war, Sheikh Al-Muhtasib settled with many men and scholars in the city of Jerusalem, and due to the necessity created by the conditions of the occupation, they established the Islamic Authority and made its headquarters in Jerusalem with the aim of confronting the occupation and preventing it from managing the affairs of Muslims in Jerusalem and the West Bank, and to protect Islamic holy sites from attack and maintain the continuity of the work of Jerusalem institutions.
