The reciter, Sheikh Saeed Hassan Hussein Sammour (1917 - August 30, 1982), sheikh, scholar, jurist, and reciter of the Qur’an. He was born and raised in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm. He is the reciter of the Levant and the Arab world, and he was the most prominent person who recited the Noble Qur’an on Arab radio stations in his time.

His upbringing and his request for knowledge
He is Sheikh Saeed bin Hassan Hussein Sammour. He was born in the city of Tulkarm, Palestine, in 1917. He grew up in his city in a family known for knowledge. He studied Sharia sciences and the Qur’an in Tulkarem from a number of scholars and sheikhs. Then, as a young man, he took over reading the Qur’an in mosques and religious ceremonies in Tulkarm. .

After that, he joined Al-Azhar in Cairo in 1937, where he learned the narration of Hafs on the authority of Asim from the way of Al-Shatibiyyah and mastered it.

In the mid-1940s, he went to Damascus and joined Issaf Al-Khairy School and the Institute for the Revival of Sharia Sciences, and in 1960 he obtained a certificate of Sharia studies with distinction, with the presence of the Qur’an on the Syrian Arab Radio.

Sheikh Saeed Sammour was an imam of several mosques in Palestine and Jordan, and he established and supervised a Qur’an role in Jordan. He also contributed to proofreading the printing of several copies of the Qur’an, and he was an advisor to the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments.

He worked as a lecturer of Sharia at Princess Alia College in Amman, and he also worked as a lecturer at the University of Jordan from the early seventies until his death in 1982.

Sheikh Saeed Samour represented Jordan in a number of international conferences on the Qur’an, including the International Qur’an Conference in Turkey during the period between December 15, 1976 and December 21, 1976, with the participation of fifteen countries. He also represented Jordan at the Quran Conference in Libya in 1978.

He recited the Qur’an on major occasions
Sheikh Saeed Sammour was chosen to recite the Qur’an in major ceremonies and occasions. He recited the Qur’an in Syria in the presence of President Gamal Abdel Nasser during the period of unity with Egypt. He also performed the Qur’an in Jordan at the Raghadan Royal Palace in front of Jordan’s King Hussein bin Talal and his crown prince at the time, Prince Hassan bin Talal.

Achievements and Awards

Honor him
Sheikh Saeed Sammour won the gold medal for the Qur’an during the Qur’an conference in Turkey in December 1976, in the presence of then-Turkish Prime Minister Suleiman Demirel. Turkish Prime Minister Suleiman Demirel also invited Sheikh Sammour to visit his home.

Sheikh Saeed Sammour was honored more than once, and on November 15, 2013, Sheikh Sammour was honored as part of the first ceremony honoring scholars and readers in Jordan under the auspices of the Jordanian Minister of Awqaf, Bassam Al-Amoush, who is one of Sheikh Saeed Sammour's students.

Sheikh Saeed Hassan Sammour died on August 30, 1982 AD, corresponding to Dhu al-Qi`dah 11, 1402 AH, and was buried in the "Sweileh Cemetery" in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

A Palestinian sheikh, Ammar al-Badawi, the mufti of Tulkarm, wrote a book on the biography of Sheikh Saeed Sammour.

Sheikh Reciter Muhammad Saeed Malhas said: “The one who was most affected by his reading and his knowledge of intonation, His Eminence Sheikh Saeed Hassan Hussein Sammour, the owner of the beautiful voice, with the chain of transmission that is connected to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he is one of the oldest reciters in Palestine and Jordan.”
Sheikh Ammar Al-Badawi said: “Sheikh Saeed Hassan Samour is considered one of the oldest reciters in Palestine and Jordan, and he was the first to receive the narration of Hafs on the authority of Asim with a continuous chain of narrators. Glorious; Thousands of students graduated from his hands from various countries. Sheikh Saeed excelled in the narration of Hafs on the authority of Asim in receiving it from his sheikh Othman Suleiman Murad, and he was considered among the list of the first brilliant students on his authority, so no writer wrote about Sheikh Othman except that he mentioned Sheikh Saeed Sammour among the greats Egyptian readers.
