Boxer Izz Al-Din Al-Afouri won a bronze medal during his participation in the Fourth Arab Youth Boxing Championship, held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
Federation President Fawzi Al-Asafra, who is in Cairo to attend the executive meeting of the Arab Boxing Federation, said that Al-Afouri was able to obtain a bronze medal in the 75-kg weight category during his participation as part of the Palestinian Boxing Federation delegation, which consisted of two boxers.
He explained that the boxer Youssef Abu Dhaim, who competed in the 52-kilogram weight, gave an honorable performance and bid farewell to the competition, in his first Arab participation.
Al-Asafra stressed that our happiness with this achievement was not complete due to the inability of the delegation from the southern governorates to travel and participate in this tournament, due to the great obstacles imposed by the Israeli occupation.
In turn, the team's technical director, Nader Al-Jayousi, explained that the importance of this participation lies in the opportunity that Al-Afouri and Abu Dhaim had to participate in an international tournament, and to interact with boxers from several Arab countries, through the training camp that continued on the sidelines of the tournament after their exit from the qualifiers.
He said: “The presence of the boxer Ahmed Harara and his follow-up and supervision of the young boxers had a great impact, as Harara played the role of supervisor and coach and was able to provide the boxers with everything they needed, especially in light of the federation’s inability to send a larger training and administrative staff.”
For his part, Harra, who lives in Egypt to complete his graduate studies in the field of boxing and is the closest candidate to compete in the Arab Men’s Championship in Sudan and the Asian Championship in Thailand, expressed his pride and happiness in welcoming his countrymen and game partners, adding: “I hope for more progress for the players in the upcoming participations.” “I was very happy to know you, you are truly heroes.”
Al-Asafra held several meetings with Arab federations on the sidelines of the tournament, in addition to the central meeting that discussed all activities for the year 2019, with the aim of determining the Arab boxing calendar based on the calendar of the Asian and African Federations in conjunction with the International Federation.
